You’re Wasting Your Time

We repeat this sentence quite often. Most of us are even willing to volunteer advice, recommend ideas, and suggest plans to help others be productive and overcome laziness. Right?

But have you ever consifered that people are different? What you see as a waste of time might be the greatest success someone else can achieve in their life.

Fame, money and power are not the ultimate proof that we are making the best use of our time. In fact, these glimmering idols are some of the most dangerous thieves of time. They glow with sparkling lights on the horizon, and you follow them—day after day, month after month, and year after year.

Through your journey, you achieve things—perhaps great things—yet you still chase the dazzling lights. You keep walking, oblivious to how time has slipped through your fingers, like soft sands. Suddenly, exhausted and drained, you blink and look back. Stupified, you gaze near and far, wondering about the many things, moments, and people you’ve missed, ignored, or—worse —belittled while chasing a mirage that never ends.

Do you agree with whoever said, “Lost time ticks in hell”? Isn’t it actually so right? I believe it is, and I’m also convinced that it applies both to those who chase the distant, dazzling mirage and to those who do nothing but watch, dreaming of following the same path. In the end, both cry over spilled milk—though they could have simply enjoyed it while they had the chance.

Our lives are not the same. You have certain chores, commitments, and deams to fullfil and I have mine— which might not seem so different. We waste time when we either achieve too much or nothing at all. Time is life, and life is not about gaining more or less. It is about what, how, and why you gain.

Only then will you know that you are not wasting your time.

Spring Forward, Fall back

That’s how to remember when to change the clock. We’re changing it forward this Sunday.

Every time we change that blessed hour forward or backward, I feel a bit confused for a while, trying to figure out what time it was supposed to be.

But this post is not about time, or why and when the process started. Of course, it’s interesting to know, but don’t be disappointed when you find out it’s related to wartime decisions.

When I saw this phrase early today, I mainly thought of spring and autumn. How they both go in different directions, and never meet.  Or do they? I am not sure, but let’s see how my mind takes this post.

Life in spring goes forward — and with abundance. Spring steps forward, happy to leave winter behind. The trees put on their new, fresh green costumes. The small birds grow, spread their wings, and leave the nests. The flowers brighten their colours, and diffuse beautiful scents. The bees and butterflies receive the news, and come out of their cocoons and hives, adding more colours and sounds to life. The fruits become tastier, more sour, more sweet. The vegetables grow fresher, more editable. And, the day extends longer, warmer, and clearer. The nights become more sparkly, noisier, more adventurous. See? Spring goes forward.

After six months, autumn arrives. It’s the season of beautiful firey colours, chilly mornings, and cosy nights. But, it has to take a step backward, just to close the door on summer. Otherwise, summer would extend for more than enough. Autumn stands there for a while, shaking the leaves from the trees, sending the birds back early to their nests, and rushing the butterflies and bees to their hiding places. It offers its specials: root vegetables, and citrus fruits to strengthen the body and warm the heart before stepping into the cold, freezing winter.

Apparently both Spring and Autumn can never meet at any point. There are two gaps: winter and summer. But as I think about it now, perhaps there might be a possibility. Don’t day and night meet? They do, and there are more gaps than just two between them. In Arabic there are at least ten names for the stages of night, starting from dusk until it reaches dawn. Therefore, if we think of spring as a the first summer, and autumn as the first winter, perhaps there would be no gaps.

Hope this post doesn’t confuse you.

Do you change time in your country?

Perspective And Life

How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

Your perspective of something or someone is how you see, think, understand, and feel them, right?

And life? What is life? It’s how you are here. It’s the breath coming in and out. It’s your heart and soul. Am I right?

My perspective of life is that it’s a gift, the most precious gift we’ve been blessed not only to have, but also to live. It’s the one and only priceless gift you’ll ever have in your lifespan on this earth.

For how many people would you say; ‘You are my heart and soul.’ Only the most dearest.

How many things would you put your heart and soul into? Only the best.

Time slips through your hands just like water. Good and bad moments and events come along your the journey. Still, your previous gift remains priceless, irreplaceable. If only we can appreciate it, and never give up, all other challenges would be easier to manage and overcome.

With all the best wishes,

What can be better?

What is the greatest gift someone could give you?

First I thought of Time because what could be a better gift than sparing a few moments to show kindness and care for others. Time to talk, to listen, to write, to read, to play, to joke, to buy a gift, send a gift, ….

But then, I thought that your time gift would be worthless, valueless if it is not genuine, if it has no feelings, no specialness. It becomes a show off, a dull routine.

In other words, the greatest gift doesn’t ‘t have to be on your wish list for your birthday, it might be just smile from a child, a prayer from your beloved ones, or a comment on your blog. Just an unexpected, simple, pure gesture. People say, “Whatever comes from the heart, goes to the heart. »

What gift can be better than that?

Books, daily prompt

Don’t go back

What’s the hardest decision you’ve ever had to make? Why?

I am reading The Caliph’s House right now. It is a travel memoir, a type of biography. It’s full of adventures, cultural explorations, self discoveries, and humorous characters and stories. However, it has also some misinterpretations of Islamic teachings, perhaps becuase it’s written in the first person, mainly reflecting and generalising personal views. Here is the link for my book review. Have a look, and hope you will like it

https://nh825.wordpress.com/2024/12/02/the-caliphs-house/

Any way, the more I read from the book, the more I am totally convinced that ‘don’t go back,’ though the hardest decision one might take, is also the right decision. It something like; forgive but don’t forget. Or, time never goes back, so why would you? Or, don’t cry over spilled milk! These all could be hard decisions taken in different ways and on different occasions.

My point can apply to places, people, and even careers. Once you step out of something, you change and so do the others. You become a different person, and so will your old place, your old friends, and your work experience. It will be not only disappointing but also torturous to imagine yourself, the others, or your old place, the same as in the old days.

So, the best, though also the hardest, is to not go back which of course doesn’t mean abandonment. Eventully, you will call your old friend, visit your old place, and relish the memories of your old job. But that will be it, no more expectations, no more memories.

Does this make any sense? Hope it does.

WordPress

If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?

It’s not that I would post more on WordPress. I am satisfied if I manage to share one post a day, as my hands are full with other priorities and chores.

But, if I have extra free time I would like to check and read more posts on WordPress, especially from you, my visitors and subscribers. It’s not mainly because you are reading mine, but also because I might get some inspiration from your posts or learn something new. It’s such a wonderful experience, as though you’re meeting different people and hearing their voices from all around the world. Though, in actual life, our paths might never cross.

I really appreciate your visits, likes, and comments, and I wish I could have some extra time to read more of your posts.

With all the best wishes,

Just writing

Who doesn’t?

Do you need time?

Time is what we are. More precisely, it is  what our life is.

When we are young, we don’t care about it, don’t think about it. Precious or not, we enjoy it. It streches long and green before us. But the older we become, the more we think about it and live every second of it. We no longer measure it as we live its all colours.

Can anyone say I don’t need time? Can anyone live without time? I doubt it.

Working, studying, writing, reading, making a family, raising children, cooking, cleaning, exercising, etc, all need time. Even our emotions need time.

Love needs time. Yes, one can fall in love at the first sight, in a split second. But,  it’s time that proves whether this love is an infatuation, a passing fancy, or genuine. Hate also needs time though one can hate at the first sight. Our attempts to get rid of this feeling or that need time. It’s time that can explain why and how we have the feeling and whether we will ever overcome it.

Of course, I need time.

With all the best wishes,

Time doesn’t go back

Is there an age or year of your life you would re-live?

No, it does but only, in our imagination.

Just close your eyes and go back in time. There are your big family gatherings, school trips, and your last year at high school with all its hardwork and true friendship. And here’s your wedding day, your first baby in your arms, your second playing around, and your third holding your hand. And could one ever forget that first day in a foreign land, the first friend abroad, and the new life. Can you ask time to stop at one of these moments, days, or years? I might have made that wish years ago, but not anymore.

There are pleasant moments, days, and years in one’s life, and there are also horrible ones. That’s life. It goes up and down. It’s hard to pick one day, or age or year without living the whole experience of it. That’s how we grow and how we change. Haven’t all these years and days and moments made us who we are today? Haven’t they given us all these wonderful memories to relish and re-live in in our imagination?

Does this make any sense? I hope it does.

With all the best wishes,

Nahla
