The Extinction of Mail Service

Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.

This is the latest news on Pure and Simple Channel, which nobody seems to care a whit about. This is likely because the term “mail service” is no longer in use in today’s world.

Here’s the news; There’s a widespread complaint about mail service across the globe. It claims: “Since the postman left, there hasn’t been an honest message.

Have you heard this piece of news?

Well, it’s just come to my attention that the news was just a saying—or perhaps a quote. FYI, in case you decide to look it up.

Anyway, isn’t that saying or quote so true and insightful?

How is the postman doing in your place?

Well… in mine, the postman shows up once a week, if not longer, and delivers mostly ads, bills, and donation bags. Worse still, it seems no one looks forward to seeing him anymore. Oh, the poor man and the mail posts have become old-fashioned on the road to extinction.

Now, what do you think we’ve been missing since the postman left?

Perhaps the design of the stamp, the scent of the paper, the genuine affections in the words, the smile hidden behind those brief greetings, the longing in between the lines, the long details, the casual sentences, and the unique signature at the end.

In other words— when the postman left, the letter lost its pure and simple message.

With hope and peace,

Recorded Messages

Why do people send recorded messages instead of calling or even writing a text message?

Perhaps it’s because they are busy or because they make typo mistakes, just like me when writing in a hurry. Or, maybe, they just want to prattle knowing well that you don’t have the time to listen. In these cases, you won’t feel offended or marginalised. Instead, you would laugh when you press on the message and hear it.

But there’s also a possibility that the sender doesn’t want to talk to you. Their recorded message feels just like a mission or an ethical, obligatory duty to inform you of something. In this case, you wouldn’t laugh because you feel marginalised, and so distant from the voice you’re hearing. It’s at this moment, you wish it had just been a text message. At least then, you wouldn’t have your hopes up.

Years ago, people used to send letters and postcards. Back the, the sender didn’t just use their special handwriting, but also their voice, their feelings, and their unique signature. No wonder why people, in the past, used to wait for postman. No wonder, they treasured their correspondences and kept them safe and secure. And, no wonder people loved to write letters as much as to receive them.

By the way, have you ever wondered why recorded messages sound so well-prepared?

I have, and I feel they are just like a drama after so many rehearsals.

With all the best wishes,

Nahla

My dear old me

Write a letter to your 100-year-old self.

Are you already a hundred years old? What an achievement! Hope you’re doing well, both physically and sychologicially. You know that your parents, grandparents and great grandparents had barely managed to reach their seventy five. But, according to what I had seen and heard, they had been acting as if they were a hundred. Pray tell me you are in good form and shape.

Sure, you still remember that madness about beauty standards and cosmetic surgeries which are developing every second these days They’ve been blowing the brains of both men and women for a while. Do you still remember when you used to laugh at how some women are looking all the same. You, then said, one day husbands and wives will be confused, unable to spot their partners among the crowd of similar faces. Hopefully, you’re smiling now while saying no; the number of people who giving up this madness are on rise.

What about smart technologies and artificial intelligence? Are people giving up these things too or things are becoming worse. Please, do not say robots are everywhere. Hopefully, you’re smiling again and say; no, humans are in control and they’re moving, working, and using their own hands and brains.

Don’t forget to send my prayers and love to my children and my grandchildren,

Love you my dear old me,

Be safe,

Be always content,

With the best wishes,

Nahla
