Onion tears

What brings a tear of joy to your eye?

‘Mama are you crying?’

‘No, honey, that’s onion tears.’

This is my daughter’s dramatic reaction whenever I grate some onions. I know she’s just joking, but I love to see that dramatic performance she puts on to show that she cares about me.

I believe most people will cry their eyes out when they’re dealing with onions. But I also believe that a genuine gesture of love, appreciation, thanks, understanding, and support will always bring tears to our eyes.

Baking

Jot down the first thing that comes to your mind.

The first thing I thought of when I opened my blog today was baking. Perhaps, because of the delicious aroma that’s wafting in my house today. Yes, today, I am baking some pastries for my family. I’m not professional, but, the aroma alone is enough to make your mouth-water.

‘Happiness is homemade.’ Whoever said that was so wise. What can be better than baking and cooking experiments at home? A good meal and a bad one. Fail twice and succeed thrice. Baking fills our homes with fun, warmth, and long-lasting memories.

I believe that even when we follow the same recipes, our dish will taste different. Because, what we cook or bake is not just about the ingredients. You, the cook, the baker, add your feelings, your efforts, and even your own taste buds into the recipe, and that makes the final product taste different and special.

Happiness is absolutely homemade,

With all the best wishes,

I do

Do you enjoy your job?

People are different. Some won’t rest until they phyiscally reach the moon with all the hardships, risks and costs of the journey. However, there are others who would enjoy doing other things for their goal is a different moon.

I’ve always enjoyed hearing from others about their jobs, their workload and how that’s affecting their life. I have tried a few things, and you know what?  I believe God puts us where we need to be.

I am a mother and that’s the job when I won’t be replaced, sacked, or forgotten.

With all the best wishes,

The Captain’s daughter

One day I took my daughter to the local library to get a new book. She picked two, and it was my turn to choose mine. It was The last Pearl by Leah Fleming that caught my sight.

It was the first time to know about Fleming or read any of her books. It’s about a young woman, Greta’s journey in time and place. It’s about family, family poverty, family struggle, family failure, and family success. It’s about kindness, cruelty, misery, and happiness. And that’s the book I have been looking for.

Then I borrowed another book; The Captain’s Daughter. I expected to finish it by the end of the Christmas holiday, but I read it; done.

It’s the story of two Titanic survivors, two women that were destined to save the life of each other. It’s about kindness, friendship, family, motherhood, and humanity. If you’re interested in the setting of different countries, moving home, wartime, and relationships between different cultures and backgrounds, then this one is highly recommended.

And one more thing about the captain’s daughter, it explains how ‘the secrets in a woman’s heart are deeper than the ocean.

Have you read any of Leah Fleming’s books?

Wishing you all the best,

Nahla
