Weekend Word Prompt

Bedlam

This post was inspired by Weekend Writing Prompt #491: This weekend challenge is to write a poem or a piece of prose in exactly 74 words using the word “Bedlam”.

The swans and their little chicks were having some relaxed moments in the big pond.

They were quietly swimming, gently whispering to one another.

A few cars were parked on the opposite side of the pond.

A bit later, more and more cars arrived and parked along the road.

Then people and children got out of the cars.

They started walking, talking, and laughing around the pond.

Some paused to take photos, and others threw some bread to feed the flock.

Crows, gulls, and pigeons gathered out of nowhere.

Caws, squawks, cooing, fluttering, and human noise filled the place

The big swans watched the scene with cautious eyes as they circled their little ones.

Then, with elegant posture, they gave three trumpet calls.

“What is Bedlam?” a child asked his parents.

“It was a hospital for the insane, son. But when did you learn that word?” his parents asked, looking surprised.

’Those big swans were shouting ’BEDLAM! BEDLAM! BEDLAM!’ the child said, and the parents burst out laughing.

With bedlam thoughts,

Nahla

P.s.  apparently, I exceeded the limit.
