It’s already the 20th of October.
Can you believe it? It feels like this visitor just came a few days ago.
He seems in a rush, and that’s why he decided to get on one of those speedy trains that cross countries in no time.
And he announced in advance that he is going to change the clock on the 25th.
‘The days will grow shorter and the nights longer, and in a blink of an eye, October’s train will reach its destination,’ I thought, but couldn’t persuade this visitor to slow down.
So I’ve been on board this speedy train,
I’ve been running here and there,
putting on the coat, and taking it off,
finishing this and starting that,
eating breakfast and soon preparing dinner,
reading my book and, a moment later, picking up the phone to answer a call,
and finally when I decide to write, my daughter decides to tell me this and that.
And then my eyes grow heavy, and I want nothing but to sleep.
That’s my October on its speedy train.
What bothers me more than all that is the Makioka Sisters novel.
Sometimes I wonder why October didn’t spare me some time to read more of its pages on his fast train journey.
But October is not a patient visitor, and that’s why he overlooked the Makioka Sisters.
Now it’s my challenge to finish this book before the sisters extended their visit into November.
And that would wear my patience thin.
But don’t worry October. With your busy, fast visit, and my Makioka Sisters challenge, you’re such a special visitor.
With Octobre thoughts,
Nahla
